Macbeth staged in Assamese at Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, March 11: William Shakespeare’s famous play Macbeth was staged at Sivasagar tya Mandir in Sivasagar recently with two days of successful performance by the artistes of Sivasagar tya Samaj. The actors, both male and female, justified their roles and earned huge applause from the audience.

The play, which was translated into Assamese by Jibath Hazarika and directed by Sapunjyoti Thakur, was organized by Sivasagar tya Samaj with fincial support from the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of India.

The play, which was staged for the first time in Sivasagar, attracted theatre lovers who enjoyed it thoroughly.

Noted Assamese actors Pranjal Saikia and his wife Purnima Saikia, who also enjoyed the drama, said, “We have come to Sivasagar only to experience the legendary drama of Shakespeare’s Macbeth in Assamese. The performance of the artistes on stage was also brilliant. The presentation of the play showed the dedication of the artistes towards their roles.”

Superintendent of Police, Sivasagar Bibekanda Das, ONGC, Executive Director Budhin Deori, Assistant Commissioner of Sivasagar Ram Kumar lauded the organizer and also the performance of the artistes for making the play a huge success.
