Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi observed across State

LAKHIMPUR, Jan 31: Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi was celebrated in Lakhimpur on Wednesday with traditiol flavour under the aegis of Lakhimpur Kendriya Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi Udjapan Somiti at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town. The programme began with the unfurling of the flag by Dr. Biman Chetia, the President of the Celebration Committee. 'Maidam Tarpan' event was administered by Deva Gogoi while one of the educationists of the district Chandreswar Duarah paid the floral tribute to the statue of Chao-lung Syu-ka-fa. Dr. Gu Phukan, President of the North Lakhimpur Tai Cultural Research Center started the Traditiol programmes of the event at 11am.

The open session which was chaired by Dr. Biman Chetia commenced from 1am. It was iugurated by former MLA Gha Burhagohain, in which Columnist Mayur Borah participated as appointed speaker.

JORHAT: Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi was celebrated throughout the district of Jorhat with great pomp and gaiety. The celebration was organized by the Tai Ahom Sanskariti Sangrakshan Aru Siksha Bikash Samati (TAISSAB), said Bijoy Baruah, a member from the committee on Wednesday.

Bijoy Baruah said that earlier in the morning, offering of prayers and lighting of earthen lamps on  the maidam of Sargadeo Purandra Singha and Sargadeo Kamalaswor Singha was done by the Ahom community in presence of prominent Tai scholar Puspo Gogoi, who is also the recipient of Sukhapha Bota,  2017 from Dhemaji.

Kamaljyoti Gogoi, SEBA secretary to the Government of Assam, spoke a lot about the importance of  the day while  Dr Kushal Baruah, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Tezpur University, spoke about the role of the great sargadeos in building a modern Assam.

 Joysagar: The Tai Ahom community of Sivasagar celebrated Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi in the historic Talatal Ghar premises of Joysagar in Sivasagar on Wednesday. Besides, Furalung Puja was conducted by the Deodhai Bailung priests who came from the historic Amlokhi Deokhal of Lakwa and also from the Bokota Deokhal of  Sivasagar dist. Hundreds of devotees took part in the celebration. The Sivasagar District Ancient Monument Preservation Committee also observed Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi in the premises of  Tai Ahom Cultural Research Center, Station Chariali  with a daylong agenda. Besides, Tai Ahom Yuba Sanmilan, Tai Ahom Students’ Union, Sivasagar District Chapter observed Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi at Banmukh, Betberi, Nitaipukhuri, Gaurisagar, Konwarpur and Dhitaipukhuri area of the district respectively. In Hahnchara, Khemdoi Samaj of the Ahom Community of Sivasagar celebrated it in the banks of Sa-Dhowa Pukhuri today.

mrup: To pay rich tributes to their ancestors, the Tai-Ahom community of greater mrup observed Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi, the great religious festival of the community with a two-day long programme on January 28 and January 31 respectively at Tai Kristi Kendra premises here with religious fervor and enthusiasm. On the first day, besides religious rituals, the programme comprised of several competitions like drawing, recitation, debating and quiz among school children.

 On the concluding day, the programme began with ‘Freetune Sewa’ lighting of lamps, garlanding at free tune which was followed by flag hoisting, maidam tarpan  and main puja. After that a grand cultural procession was brought out. The open session-cum-prize distribution ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Suren Gogoi, president of Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi core  committee.

DEMOW: Under the patroge of All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU), Demow Regiol Committee, Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi was celebrated with a two-day long programme at Demow Public Playground. As per the programme, on Wednesday the Maidam Tarpan was offered and after that the Dam-Phi Puja began with the rituals which were followed by the offerings and prayers by the Pandit Parishad. The drawing and essay competitions were organized on the day where students took part. A  community feast was organized by the Organizing Committee and after that the winners were given prizes.
