DHEKIAJULI/DEMOW, Jan 15: People of Dhekiajuli celebrated Magh Bihu with an elaborate sumptuous cuisine along with traditiol pithas, larus and jolpan (sira-doi).
On Friday, the village people gathered in front of the make-shift huts (bhela ghar) and ate the food prepared for the feast. On this occasion, they prepared different traditiol Bihu items like masor tenga, omita khar and chicken delicacies. They spent the night around the meji singing Bihu songs and beating the dhol.
But in Dhekiajuli town, people had their Bhogali feast at home and youths celebrated the
festival in a pompous manner. On Saturday too, the same festive spirit was seen. This time traditiol sports like egg-fight, buffalo-fight, cock-fight and nightingale-fight were not seen in the villages as well as in Dhekiajuli town area. The entire Bihu festival was celebrated in a peaceful manner and no untoward incident was reported from any part of Dhekiajuli revenue circle area.
Magh Bihu was celebrated in Demow and its surroundings areas with fanfare. Mejis were burnt and among all the bhela ghars in Demow and the surroundings areas, the three-storey bhela ghar made near Demow in Padumoni Gaon grab the attention of the people. The People of Sepon Chakalia designed the bhela ghar as a replica of the Siva Dol.
The youths of the villages organized sports events and performed dances, songs, and played games in front of the bhela ghars. ‘Bhogali Ek Sandhya’ was organized in Chakalia Samay Kshetra where popular singers performed. The traditiol mela at Dehajan and Kachumari was held and it was attended by thousands of people to enjoy the famous cock fight.
