Mahatma Gandhi Children Park reopened

Dibrugarh, May 4: Ending a long wait, Mahatma Gandhi Children Park (MGCP) located in Khanikar here was reopened for public on Friday after it was renovated. Several children-centric features including toy train and water-park have been included in the refurbished version of the park. Earlier, the park, although popular, was devoid of anything major that could be a great crowd-puller.  Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, MP Rameshwar Teli, expressed hope that MGCP would now be able to attract not just the children, but also the tourists in general. The ceremony was graced by several other dignitaries too including MLA Rituparna Baruah and DC Laya Madduri. It must be noted that Jokai Botanical Garden was also reopened on Friday after it remained shut for public for long. Two potential tourist sites being thrown open to public on the same day has naturally spirited the locals up. One college-going girl summed up the prevailing euphoria quite vocally, “We all are in a celebratory mood now. I believe it is high time people knew that Dibrugarh isn’t just about Assam Medical College and Hospitals and Dibrugarh University, there is much more to it.”
