Mahila Congress defends Lyngdoh

SHILLONG, Feb 1: Meghalaya Mahila Congress Committee strongly defended the Sohiong legislator and State Minister of Home HDR Lyngdoh.  Notwithstanding the clamor raised by a section of NGOs that he should step down, president of the State Mahila Congress Joplin Shylla told newsmen on Tuesday, “Why should he step down when he is not involved in the crime?” “A mager of the lodge who has been arrested never listed his me,” stated Shylla, adding, “if he (HDR Lyngdoh) is involved in the crime, we will be the first one to tell him to step down.”  Lyngdoh’s me was dragged after the lodge owned by his immediate kin featured in the FIR related to a sexual assault of an under-age girl. A case has already been lodged with the state police. The state Mahila congress functiories made a token protest in front of the Congress Bhavan against Viy Katiyar’s alleged derogatory statement on Priyanka Gandhi. Apart from their protest, the Meghalaya Mahila Congress Committee members were questioned on why they were silent on the spate of alleged crime cases against women in the past one and a half months in Meghalaya.  One is related to the sitting legislator Julius Dorphang, the other related to the outgoing Governor V Shanumagathan and officer in the Directorate of soil and water conservation.
