GOLAGHAT, April 5: The members of Golaghat District Mahila Samiti staged protest on Thursday near the Deputy Commissioner’s office against increasing crime against women in Assam and demanded protection and safety to women. More than 300 women raised various slogans against the government for failing to stop rape and atrocities on women in Assam. The women’s body alleged that the Sarbanda Sonowal-led BJP government could not provide security to women due to which rapes and atrocities on women were on the rise. The protesters demanded to impose strict law against rapists. They also submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat.
