GUWAHATI, July 25: The Fatasil Ambari police arrested one identified as Rupak Kalita from Doom Dooma, Tinsukia on Monday last allegedly for robbing precious ornaments from the residence of retired DIG KK Sarma. Notably, Rupak has been working as cook at the retired DIG’s residence located at Rang Pathar under Fatasil Ambari police station.

According to police source, Rupak along with another woman identified as Mitu Ghosh, who served the retired DIG’s family as their domestic worker (maid) robbed valuable ornaments worth Rs 30 lakh (approximately) on June 21. In this regard, an FIR was lodged at the local police station and a case (No 254/18 u/s 380) was registered. Accordingly, the police started investigation and initially arrested domestic worker Mitu. Before the team of interrogation she confessed that the stolen chain was thrown away to the Bharalu River in fear of recovery by the police. Later she was sent to judicial custody.

Significantly, following the arrest of Mitu, cook Ruapk Kalita mysteriously fled away. However, the police could arrest him on Monday last and recovered a partial amount of the stolen ornaments.
