ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Public Health Engineering and Water Supply (PHE & WS) Wangki Lowang on Tuesday attended the ‘Swachh Mahotsav’-2019 organized by the PHE & WS department at Banquet Hall, Itanagar.

Addressing the gathering, Lowang stressed on the importance of sanitation and requested the people of State to take responsibility to keep their surroundings clean.

The Chief Engineer of Eastern Zone, PHE & WS Department Tomo Basar said that the Open Defecation Free (ODF) State was only possible because of the untiring and immense support by Chief Minister Pema Khandu. He also stressed that ODF was also not possible without the support of the district administration, people of the different villages and field officers.

Basar said that a clean village will not only keep the villagers healthy but can also increase the flow of tourists. Speaking on the depleting surface water in the State, Basar called for a movement against deforestation. He said that the main reason for the depleting surface water in the State is because of deforestation.

“The decrease in surface water should be controlled in due time for the greater interest of people,” he said adding that, as predicted by few scientists ‘water’ would be the main reason for the World War–III. He also requested the people of State to unite for the “Jal Jeevan Mission-2024”.
