Major issues of tea tribe community must be addressed: Ghatowar

TANGLA, May 1: World Intertiol Labour Day was observed with a day-long programme at Attarekhat TE of Udalguri district on Sunday. The programme was organized by Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) Tangla and Mangaldai zone at Attarekhat Tea Garden playground.

Veteran Congress leader and president of All Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha, Paban Singh Ghatowar attended the programme as chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Ghatowar said, “The major issues of the tea tribe community should be addressed, the people residing in tea gardens should give priority to educate their children and alcoholic drinks in gardens should be banned.”

The open session was presided over by Ismail Hial. Attending the open session as guest of honour, Rajya Sabha MP Santius Kujur said the State Government had been able to pay the real wages to the tea workers. Kujur also appealed for uplift of school bus and health services to the community. The meeting was also attended by Dayal Silver Kujur, secretary of Mangaldai unit ACMS , Prabhat Panika, Independent candidate of Panery LAC, P Bora, SDO and a host of other dignitaries. Cultural troupes also performed Jhumur dance and various other traditiol dances.
