‘Make all watch posts functional by July 31’

GUWAHATI, July 3: Governor Prof. Jagadish Mukhi on Tuesday asked Additional Director General of Police (Border) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta to urgently look into the matter of non-functional Watch Posts in the Assam Police Border Organization (APBO). The Sentinel in its July 2 edition carried a news item stating that at a time when the entire north-eastern region is taken up with the grave matter of checking illegal infiltration from across the border, as many as 39 of the total 159 ‘Watch Posts’ of the APBO are non-functional or defunct. Taking a suo motu cognizance of a news item the Governor has asked ADGP (Border) to look into the matter on an urgent basis and take remedial steps. Prof. Mukhi called ADGP (Border) Mahanta to his office at Raj Bhavan to discuss the status of the border outposts. He asked Mahanta to look into the issue and lend his intervention for capacity building of the watch posts immediately. He also asked him to engage his men and machinery to make all the watch posts functional by July 31, 2018 and give him an action taken report.
