'Make the magisterial inquiry public'

Mookhep Firing incident

SHILLONG, May 4: Family members of late D Siangshai, who was shot dead on September 24, 2014 during the Mookhep firing incident, demanded that the government should place the  findings of  magisterial inquiry, headed by S Syiemlieh, in public domain, besides demanding a monetary compensated increment  to the family.

Two people were killed in a firing incident during the anti- NGT movements against unscientific coal mining and six others were injured during the fateful evening that prompted the Police to resort to police firing. The blank firing was reported to have had intermittent gun blows on agitators.

P Bamon, brother in-law of late D Siangshai, while addressing newsmen on Monday said, “We will not accept the proposal by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on the floor of the House to start a fresh inquiry to be headed by Commissioner of Urban Affairs D Wahlang until government makes public the findings of the previous Magisterial inquire headed by S Syiemlieh.” “This step motherly attitude of the Chief Minister has made us to come forward and express our disapproval by writing a complaint to the Committee of Petition of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Shillong,” said P Bamon.
