Man attacks wife in an untoward incident of domestic violence in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Amidst polling in the first phase poll of the 17th general election, an untoward incident of domestic violence took place at a polling station under Lakhimpur election district on Thursday. Though the incident impacted the polling process to some extent, it was controlled by the security personnel and polling in the station concluded peacefully.

As per report from Aditya Prakash Deory, the Officer-in-charge of Lakhimpur Police Station, one Nabir Hussain, a resident of Paschim Chandmari of North Lakhimpur town, attacked his first wife Anjuma Begum with a pair of scissors while she was standing in queue at Somdiri Bantow polling station around 10.45 am in order to exercise her franchise. The woman sustained severe injury and was admitted to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. Police and security personnel detained Nabir and sent him to the lock-up of the Khelmati Police outpost.
