Man-elephant conflict claims another life  in Udalguri

TANGLA: The man-elephant conflict refuses to die down in the Indo-Bhutan border villages of Udalguri district. A day after two persons lost their lives in an elephant attack, a fresh incident has been reported where one person was trampled to death by wild jumbos at 13 No. Line area in Bhutiachang TE under Paneri PS in Udalguri district at about 10.30 pm on Monday night. The victim has been identified as Benjamin Minj (34).

According to locals, the victim was patrolling the area with other villagers to chase away herds of jumbos when he was trampled to death by a loner jumbo. The irked locals have blamed the forest department for lack of coordination to chase away herds of jumbos which frequent the villages, specifically in the post-harvesting season.
