Manchester, Feb 15: Manchester United will me their Old Trafford ground’s south stand after club legend Bobby Charlton, the English football giants announced on Monday.

“The Sir Bobby Charlton Stand will be unveiled against Everton on Saturday 2 April,” the club tweeted on Monday.

The ceremony will be attended by Charlton himself.

“Bobby is, quite simply, the most iconic figure in English football history. It has been a privilege to know him and humbling to work alongside him for the last 10 years,” the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was quoted as saying by the BBC on Monday.

“Reming the South Stand, which contains both the Directors’ Box and the old players’ changing rooms, is a fitting tribute to all that Bobby has contributed to the club both as a player and a director.”

Speaking about the honour, the BBC quoted Charlton saying: “This is a great honour and I am very proud - for myself and my family.”

Charlton joined the club as an apprentice in the early 1950s and made 758 appearances, scoring a record 249 goals. IANS
