Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti Temporarily Puts Off Leaflet Programme in Lakhimpur, Assam

LAKHIMPUR, July 29: The Lakhimpur District Unit of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS) has temporarily put off the programme of distributing one lakh leaflets among the common people of Lakhimpur against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. In a press release sent to the media, Lakhimpur district president of the organization Chinu Saikia and secretary Raju Singha informed that the programme was put off keeping in view to the publication of the final draft NRC on July 30. The organization which has opposed the controversial Bill from the beginning, organised various protest programme against it including citizens’ meeting, sit-in-strike, sending of 11,500 post cards to the President and Prime Minister of India against the Bill. Following these programmes, the organization distributed a total of 42,000 leaflets among the common people of Lakhimpur district in order to make them aware of the Bill. The organization will initiate agitation again against the Bill if the Union government takes any anti-Assamese move.
