Mangaldai youth Sagar Rai Deka takes part in Helsinki City Marathon

MANGALDAI: Sagar Rai Deka, a 29-year-old energetic boy with high stamina and tremendous enthusiasm of Mangaldai town has brought laurel to the district as well as to the state by taking part in the '39th 42 km Helsinki City Marathon' in the capital city of Finland on May 18.

In the Helsinki City Marathon-one of most interesting Marathons in the world, this year as many as 3000 participants from different corners of the globe took part and Sagar Rai Deka took 3.45 hours to complete the marathon successfully. As informed only 1800 participants successfully completed the marathon.

Earlier Sagar Rai Deka took part in the '42 km International Ergo white Nights Marathon at St. Petersburg in Russia and in '42 km Ladakh full Marathon at Leh which is known as the highest Marathon in the world at 11,500 feet above sea level. He is the grandson of legendary business tycoon Sunanda Ram Deka-the founder of the SRD Group of Companies. After his primary schooling at Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad School at Mangaldai, Sagar completed his secondary education from Scindia School in Gwalior and completed his graduation from Hindu College in Delhi. He also attended three premier universities namely the University of Amsterdam, EDHEC Business School in France and Rotterdam School of Management in Netherlands. Presently he is involved with his ancestral SRD Group of Companies and is regularly taking part in all the events of bicycling and Marathons organized in the district as well as in the state. His father Mukul Chandra Deka of SRD Group of companies and mother Upashana Deka – a social activist and a lady entrepreneur have also encouraged Sagar Rai Deka with their presence in Finland.
