Manipur Climber Maibam Chingkheinganba Will Participate In the Upcoming 18th Asian Games, Says the Indian Olympic Association

Guwahati, July 27: Manipur Climber and extremely competent Maibam Chingkheinganba made country proud once again after his name was announced to participate in the upcoming Multi-sports 18th Asian games that is scheduled to be held from August 18 to september 2, 2018.

The Indian Olympic Association cleared him for Asian Games which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Altogether three climber from the country will participate in the event.

Earlier, Maibam grabbed 3 gold medals at the 21st North East Zone Sports Climbing Championship 2015 held in Agartala, Tripura and bagged two medals (gold and silver) at 2015 Asian Youth Sport Climbing Championship in Putrajaya, Malaysia on December 6. Maibam scaled the 55-feet-high speed wall in a mere 13.27 seconds, against tough competitors from China and Japan to emerge at the top spot in the Youth C (10-13 years) speed category of the event announcing his arrival at the international circuit in style.

Initially, The Indian Olympic Association had prevented the sports climbing team from the Indian contingent for the Asian Games as there were possibility on winning less medals in this event. However, the association did not show any official reason for the team's exclusion. But after an endless effort of Indian Mountaineering Foundation president Col (retd) H.S. Chauhan, along with chairman of the National Sports Climbing Association Brig (retd) M.P. Yadav, for the team's inclusion into the Asian Games bore fruit.

The Indian Olympic Association reviewed the matter and altered its decision to include the team but trimmed it down to three climbers for speed and bouldering events."The three-week training will be wrapped at the Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar', says The Indian Mountaineering Foundation.

Manipur Sports Climbing Association's General Secretary Ajit Singh has lauded the Indian Mountaineering Foundation for their relentless efforts in helping sports climbing make debut in the Asian Games. It also wished the climbers best.
