Manipur employees likely to intensify agitation

FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL, April 28: The striking government employees in Manipur are likely to intensify their agitation with the government turning a blind eye to their ongoing stir. Talking to reporters, a spokesman of the Joint Administrative Council of the All Manipur Trade Unions Council and the All Manipur Government Employees Organisation  said that a general body meeting may be shortly convened to take up the issue.

At the behest of the JAC, the government employees took mass casual leave for three days beginning from Monday. As a result all government offices wore a deserted look on the second day in Tuesday. The spokesman said that there was no response from the government side to the ongoing agitation. The proposed general body meeting will take all these factors into consideration for taking a resolution. The government had signed the memorandum of understanding with the JAC on May 19, 2010. The JAC is not amused that there was no response from the government. The spokesman claimed that the mass casual leave is a success in other districts also. He said that activists of the JAC are going around to ensure that no employee attends office.
