Manipur Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System Activist Nabs 12 Bangladeshi Immigrants

The Manipur Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) nabbed 12 persons who were trying to trespass into the Manipur border near the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway-2 on Monday. It is suspected that the people nabbed by the JCILPS are Bangladeshi immigrants and were trying to enter illegally into the state and go to its Noney district.

Rabi, an activist of the JCILPS, said, "They carried fake Aadhar cards. The government should find out who issued them the fake documents."

All the 12 persons are being arrested by the Manipur police and are questioned.

The Manipur police have started being stricter against the illegal infiltration and In August, they stepped up vigilance against the non-locals entering the state and caught several human traffickers in Jiribam district bordering Assam.

As another action of prevention of illegal infiltration, the Manipur police dismantled over ten bamboo bridges which are used across the Jiri River by the illegal migrants for sneaking into Manipur.

With the patrolling being intensified in the bordering areas of Manipur now, the Manipur government has made sure that no illegal Bangladeshi whose names are not included in the National Register of Citizens in Assam should come to Manipur to take shelter.

As Assam, the neighbouring state of Manipur, have already declared the final draft of NRC and over 40 lakhs of people haven’t found a place in the list, there are many chances for the illegal Bangladeshis to try to sneak into other north-eastern states. With their time falling short in Assam, this is obvious for the illegal immigrants to look out for other options.
