Manipur NPP merges into BJP

IMPHAL MARCH 15: President of the Manipur unit of the tiol People’s Party and all ranks today joined the BJP after abolishing the state unit. The state unit BJP president Chaoba Thouojam approved their admission and in a simple function he welcomed the new members. The state unit president of the NPP is V. Hangkhalian, a former minister. The welcome ceremony was held at 11 am today.

There were former office bearers and social workers along with the president Indications are that the social workers also have joined the BJP state unit. Speaking briefly on the welcome function Thouojam said that the NPP has failed the people in the hill areas. The public distribution system is non existent in the hill areas. The people are poverty stricken and as yet they are denied the facilities. He also alleged that the ruling Congress had rather ignored the NPP in Manipur. He

also said that this tiol party had ablolished the Manipur State Congress Party by forcing a merger. The MSCP had 5 MLAs in the Manipur Assembly. He also said that the government had taken Rs 12 crore for the construnction of three nursing colleges in Sepati, Bishnupur and Ukhrul districts. He hinted that the constructed works are not progressing. The party shall contest most of the seats in the forthcoming Autonomous Distrct Councils in the five hill districts.
