Manipuri Diaspora calls on Anjan Dutta

Reconstitution of MDC

SILCHAR, February 8: The representatives of Manipuri Diaspora and its Youth Front from Karimganj, Hailakandi, Lakhipur, Soi, Udharbond and Silchar units called on APCC president Anjan Dutta, and apprised him of the need for reconstitution of the Manipuri Development Council (MDC) whose term is to expire soon. Dutta was presented a memorandum on the matter and other related issues.

The delegation consisted of L Tejomani Singha, W Brajabasi Singha, Meratan Singha, K Hemanta Singha, Sukhendu Singha, nibabu Singha and Mitra Devi. The media-persons were briefed on the resolutions adopted at a meeting of the Manipuri Diaspora today. L Tejomani Singha, president, Manipuri Diaspora, Th Anup Kumar Singha, general secretary, Manipuri Diaspora Youth Front, K Hemanta Singha and K Ranindra Singha, were present at the press-meet.

The delegation referred to the resolution of the central committee of the Diaspora and impressed upon Anjan Dutta to ensure that Dr M Santi Kumar Singha, general secretary of Manipuri Diaspora, was taken in as the new president of the reconstituted Council. A representation in this regard was also sent to the Chief Minister of Assam, ministers, Congress MLAs and MPs of Barak Valley.

Another issue was related to the setting up of the central committee of Manipuri Diaspora and its Youth Front at Silchar.

Meanwhile, a resolution adopted at the meeting stressed on the issue that whichever forms the next government in Assam, it should not take any steps to dissolve the Manipuri Development Council. The existing government led by Tarun Gogoi was urged upon to take concrete steps for the continuation of the MDC. The newly reconstituted body of MDC should also ensure that representations from all the Manipuri domited areas of Assam get due place in the body.
