Manipuri Muslim organisation condemns atrocities on Rohingyas

From Our Special Correspondent

Silchar, Sept 19: Hundreds of members and supporters of Manipuri Muslim Development Organisation, Assam, based at Banskandi, 15 km from here, brought out a protest rally on Monday to condemn the atrocities on Rohingyas in Myanmar which continue ubated. The rally under the leadership of Kutub Ahmed Mazumder, chief advisor and ex MLA Soi, started from Lakhipur forest office and after moving through the main street of the sub divisiol town converged before the office of the SDO (Civil) in-charge, Lakhipur, J R Lalsim, ADC Cachar. Kutub Ahmed Mazumder submitted a memorandum to the SDO addressed to the President of India.

The participants in the rally carried posters and banners which besides decrying the indiscrimite killings and atrocities on Rohingyas gave cautiory messages against the Myanmarese army and also raised question at the intriguing silence of Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of Myanmar. The memorandum stating the sequence of events leading to the unprecedented killings describes how the world at large has been shaken by the orgy of violence. There has been merciless killings, burning, mayhem and ferocious brutalities perpetrated on the innocent Rohingyas living for generations in the Rakhain region of Arakan in Myanmar. This is no doubt an assault on humanism.

Shocked and dismayed by such preplanned and premeditated brutalities by the Myanmarese army, Manipuri Muslim Development Organization (MMDO) has thought it wise to send the memorandum to the President of India for his intervention. It is this army of Myanmar which has earned notoriety for suppressing and oppressing the movement for democracy by students, Buddhist monks, workers and citizens of its own country. Without exaggeration, the Myanmarese army junta has set a record in the world for its savagery. The brutal action of the army on August 8, 1988 which resulted in the firing on the students of Rangoon University and other educatiol institutions was known to the world long after it happened.

The then strong army man General Ne Win did not allow the world to know it. It is this Myanmarese army armed with the lethal and sophisticated weapons supplied by the “Tar Ideal Concept”, Israel’s most highly rated arms manufacturer, is burning villages after villages, stching children from the laps of their mothers and beheading them. This is nothing but genocide that can be compared with Hitler’s gas chamber killings. This is also an equivalent of ‘brazen ethnic cleansing’.

The silence of Aung San Suu Kyi, the memorandum states, is indicative of the fact that democracy in Myanmar is a hoax and sham. In fact, Aung San Suu Kyi is under the influence and clutch the army. She should have at least expressed her shock and condemtion at the mindless bloodsheds. The Intertiol Human Rights Organization, The Amnesty Intertiol has claimed that the massacre of Rohingyas is preplanned and this has been established by satellite pictures, images and videos. According to the memorandum, 176 of the 471 suburban villages in Rakhain are reduced to ashes and others are deserted.

Intertiol Crisis Response Director Rihan has gone on record to say that the Myanmarese army has committed crime against humanity. The President of India has been moved through this memorandum to kindly take stock of the situation and extend all possible help to the rootless and homeless Rohingyas and help them to go back to their tive land to let them live with peace and dignity. The memorandum was signed by Muhibur Rahman Khan, president, and Abdul Nur Choudhury, general secretary, of MMDO, among others.
