Maratha Quota Agitation: Internet Services suspended in Navi Mumbai in the Wake of Violent Protests

Guwahati: In the wake of the Maratha Quota agitation that has rocked Maharashtra and resulted in widespread violence, internet services have been hung up in Navi Mumbai township.

The Maratha Quota agitation, which is being led by the Maratha Kranti Morcha for reservation in jobs and education, now presents a civil disobedience like scenario, killing police constables and leading to direct clashes between agitating protestors and Maharashtra Police officials.

The internet suspension decision in Navi Mumbai came in the wake of the violence that happened in Kopar Khairne area of Navi Mumbai, where the situation is still tense.

Agitating members demanding Maratha Quota had created such a tense environment in the region last evening that the police had to use tear gas and restore to lathi-charge. Some miscreants also set fire to a police outpost.

Not only the police, even the residents of Kopar Khairne had to face the wrath of the protestors as they pelted stones at the vehicles of the residents. This also resulted in a clash between a group of local residents and the protestors.

Maratha Quota agitation began with the demand for reservation in jobs and education, but with every passing hour, the movement is becoming violent and causing inconvenience to the residents of Mumbai and Maharashtra at large.
