Margherita girl rescued from Dhubri

MARGHERITA, May 5: Anita Das Mahanta (Putly) of Margherita rescued a girl and brought her home before she could become a victim of human trafficking at Sahebganj, Dhubri under Daobhangi Police Outpost along the India-Bangladesh border.

The girl, about 14 years of age, is a resident of 2.No Roadgaon, Ledo in Margherita.  On March 24, she allegedly eloped with her driver Amir Khan alias Salim Khan. Under the pretext of arranging money in order to marry her, Khan allegedly left her with human traffickers Sahebganj, Dhubri.

Sanmehlito ari Manch Margherita Sub Divisiol Committee secretary Anita Das Mahanta (Putly), Raju Das and the mother of the girl went to Dhubri and with the help of Margherita Police, Ledo Police, Tinsukia SP, Golakganj Police Officer Bijit Daodhara, Kokrajhar SP, Dhubri town Police Officer Jayanta Kumar Das and Daobhangi Police Officer SS Roy, the girl was rescued on May 2 from Sahebganj.

Anita Das Mahanta said, “Human trafficking is on the rise and we should be careful before keeping anyone as driver or maid.”
