Martyrs' Families To Return Citations To Dispur

GUWAHATI: The families of the Assam Agitation martyrs decided to return the citations which the State government issued them as a mark of honour. The move has been taken against the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Talking to The Sentinel, Sadou Asom Jatiya Swahid Pariyal Samannay Rakkhi Parishad president Rajen Deka said: "We've decided to return the citations with which the new State government honoured us. By passing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha the Centre has shown the martyrs' blood 'thinner than water'. It's a direct insult to the Assam Agitation martyrs that prompted us to take such a step."

The BJP-led government at Dispur honoured the Assam Agitation martyrs' families with Rs 5 lakh and a citation each.
