Martyrs paid homage, security forces recover IEDs from ambush site

Itagar, April 3: Security forces today recovered two unexploded IED explosives from the site of the Thursday ambush where three army personnel were killed while four others injured when suspected militants of the NSCN opened fire on an Army convoy in troubled Tirap district.

Personnel of the 1st Assam Rifles recovered the explosives during a combing operation, district information and public relation officer (DIPRO) D Bosai said in a statement. The bodies of the killed jawans, identified as Havildars Sanjeev Kumar, Parmal Singh and Charan Singh, wrapped in tiol tricolour have been flown to their respective hometowns for the last rites with full military honour. Tirap DC Kamlesh Joshi, SP Ajit Kumar Singla along with civil officials of the district paid their last respect to the martyrs who were killed by militants in an ambush near Tupi tea garden in Old Tupi village on Khonsa-Longding road Thursday morning.

They placed wreath on the bodies of the dead soldiers who made supreme sacrifice for the cause of the tion.

Senior military officers from Dinjan, CO Assam Rifles and other officers from the defence also paid their respect to the martyrs by placing wreaths on their bodies.

In an emotiol ceremony, the martyrs were given guard of honour in presence of huge civilians and defence officials.

Meanwhile, state Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma has vehemently condemned the attack on army convoy in Tirap District in which lives of three soldiers of Indian Army were lost.

Expressing heartfelt condolences to the families of bereaved families, the governor said that those responsible for the crime would be brought to book and people of the state would not forget their ultimate sacrifice. Reminding the people that peace is a prerequisite for development and vice versa, Sharmas urged upon the people to stand united against anti social elements.

State women and child development minister Wanglin Lowangdong has expressed his shock and sorrow over the killing of the jawans and conveyed his profound sympathies to the families of those killed.

All the MLAs of Tirap district have also conveyed their deep sympathies to the families of the jawans who were killed by the miscreants. In the meantime, the DC has appealed the people to maintain calm and not to panic adding that the district administration and the security forces would leave no stone unturned to b the culprits at the earliest.
