Guwahati/New Delhi: The five-time world champion Mary Kom beats Ukraine's Hanna Okhata by 5-0 to win her sixth World Championships gold competing in the 48 kg category finals at the AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championship today.

Speaking after the fight, Mary Kom said, “First of all, I would like to thank, all my friends. They came to see my play. Especially for me, in the contingent, to cheer for us. Today, I am a little bit emotional, since I have been feeling there is no category in the Olympic Games. Because of your love and support, I am able to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Four years, ago, I was not able to qualify. I am still suffering from making the weight.

She further adds, "Thank you for your love and support. I don't have anything to give, except for gold in the country. I am still dreaming about going to dream about winning the gold in 2020."

Rewriting the history, the Manipuri Boxer goes one-on-one against Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota in Women’s 48 kg boxing final to clinch her 6th World title.

This victory in the summit clash had made the Manipuri boxer as the joint most successful boxer (Men and Women) in the history of World Championships, tied with Cuban legend Felix Savon.

It may be mentioned that Savon had won six gold medals and a silver medal at the World Championships during his illustrious boxing career.

Furthermore, Sonia Chahal will face Wahner Ornella Gabriele of Germany next in the final.

It may be mentioned that Mary Kom, who played her semi-final bout against North Korea’s Kim Hyang-Mi at the KD Jadhav Stadium in New Delhi earlier defeated her opponent in a fierce fight and stormed into the final of the AIBA World Championships.

Competing in the 48 kg category of the AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championship, Mary Kom showed an outstanding performance in the semi-final on Thursday evening.
