Mass Communication Fest held at Assam University

SILCHAR, April 23: A two-day Mass Communication fest med ‘CommFest 2k16’, which started on Friday, has ended on a high note. It was organized at the premises of Assam University in Bipin Chandra Pal semir hall. The fest began with lighting of the auspicious lamp by Dr Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, former Vice-Chancellor, Professor N N Pandey, department of Education, who is also the in-charge Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Dr Paromita Das, assistant professor, department of Mass Communication.

Professor A. taraju, in-charge, Dean, Abanindrath Tagore School of Creative Arts and Communication Studies, in his iugural speech, encouraged the students and congratulated the department for organizing such a spectacular fest. Students from all the departments of the university attended the two-day fest, who also participated in many competitions and contests. The teachers of the department supervised the fest in order to make it a well-organized, disciplined and successful one. An enlightening panel discussion on ‘Paid News and Election’ won both accolades and appreciation from the audience. Prof. Partha Sarathi Chanda, former principal, Gurucharan College, Silchar, Debashish Shome, media-person and Nilotpal Bhattacharjee, alumnus of the department and also a jourlist. The highlights of the fest were events like short film and documentary competition, film review competition, advertising contest, photography and poster competition, solo song and dance and the most prestigious ‘Mr and Miss CommFest’ contest. Entries from Shillong and Kolkata enriched the documentary competition and it elevated the contest.

Prizes were sponsored by Ayiriddhi Sparshomoni Foundation. The Foundation was formed after the sad demise of Ayiriddhi Bhattacharjee, former assistant professor of this department. The Fest was to commemorate her memory. Earlier, at the beginning of the panel discussion which took place on April 21, Nilotpal Bhattacharjee spoke few lines about late Ayiriddhi Bhattacharjee and said that she had been a source of inspiration for him and other students as well.

The two-day audio-visual fest was successful. The teacher coorditors were Dr Paromita Das and Dr Ayesha Tahera Rashid, both assistant professors of this department. Two more students’ coorditors Jishnu Das and Abhishek Roy worked relentlessly for making the event a successful one. CommFest is a gala event for the students of Mass Communication. It is organized every year in the month of March or April. It has been organized for the last 12 years. The joint efforts of the teachers and the students of the department made the CommFest a memorable event.
