Bokakhat: Unrelenting downpour since the past 24 hours have triggered massive floods in Assam. The water level in Diphlu River is flowing above danger mark owing to the overflow of rainwater from the nearby Karbi Hills.

Normal life has been severely hit and communication has come to a standstill as the National Highway 37 at Bokakhat has been blocked due to rising water level. SDRF sources informed the bridge over Diphlu River runs a risk of being washed away. Road communication with several parts of Upper Assam has been disrupted. A similar condition has also been witnessed in several parts of Assam and the most affected areas include Kaziranga, Hailakandi, Karimganj and Patharkandi. Rescue operations by SDRF are on as officials are trying to bring the affected people to a safer zone.
