Massive Protests staged against AIUDF Supremo Badruddin Ajmal across Assam, FIR lodged

Guwahati: Massive protest staged against AIUDF supremo and MP Badruddin Ajmal by several organisations across the state for hurling objectionable words against a TV journalist whom he also threatened of dire consequences on Wednesday at Hatsingimari of South Salmara Mankachar district.

Also, the United Television Media Association (UTMA) staged a sit-in demonstration at the Dispur Press Club premises today, the journalists sported black badges and also covered their mouths with a black cloth as a mark of protest.

Condemning the same, AAJU District Samitee, Dibrugarh Students' Union, Duliajan Students' Union, Koch Rajbongshi, Duliajan Press Club along with other protested against AIUDF Supremo and MP Badruddin Ajmal at South Salmara. The bodies also burnt the effigy of Maulana Badruddin Ajmal.

Speaking to The Sentinel Digital in this regard, All Assam Minority Student's Union (AAMSU), Advisor, Azizur Rahman condemning the incident stated it to be "Vinash Kale Viparit Budhi". "I condemned this act, a person with such kind of attitude cannot be a called a civilized gentleman in the society," Rahman asserted.

In a report, All Assam Barta Jibi Sangha from South Salmara district vehemently condemning the incident appealed for an immediate action upon the AIUDF Supremo.

Similarly, KMSS president Raju Borah condemning the act on Thursday appealed before the media to boycott any kind of publicity of the AIUDF party in the near future. The body also stated that the people of Assam would not forgive the Government of Assam if they fail to take necessary action against the AIUDF supremo. They also urged Maulana Badruddin Ajmal to tender his apology to the media fraternity for the behaviour.

A case has been registered against the AIUDF Supremo Badruddin Ajmal at Hatigaon Police Station by Krishak Sramik Unnayan Parishad, Axom today under case no 916/18.

Another case was registered against the leader by Oikhya Sena Asom for Golaghat District Samitee lodged a case demanding immediate action for his notorious behaviour upon the TV journalist.

It may also be mentioned that the protests were witnessed in several districts today which includes, Nalbari, South Salmara, Nagaon, Kamrup, Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Tinsukia, Kokrajhar etc.

On the other hand, AIUDF supremo and MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal tweeted an apology after he lost his cool and threatened a journalist of dire consequences during a press briefing in Hatsingimari, South Salmara Mankachar district.

Ajmal in his tweet stated, "The incident which took place today was not intentional. The concerned reporter used to ask silly question every time."

He further added in his tweet, "Media is the fourth pillar of democracy and I have always respected media persons and everybody knows that I have sincere regards for them. The Mankachar incident was an unintentional aberration and I sincerely apologise for that to all concerned."

However, several media fraternity had appealed for his public apologies in connection with the incident.

It may further be mentioned that countering a question, one of the TV journalists questioned Ajmal whether he will form an alliance with Congress or BJP at the ‘Maha Gatbandhan’ to which AIUDF Supremo got offended and said, “How many crores you been bought by BJP? You are recording this right? Son of……, a journalist cannot do this…you people are not valuing journalism. Other journalists are not like you….This particular journalist had been targeting us……Huth Son of***..you D*g…!

It was clearly seen that AIUDF Supremo immediately got offended with his question and threatened him to break his head with the mic and told him that he will finish him off.
