Mathematics Olympiad organised by Assam Academy of Mathematics to be held on 26th May 2019

GUWAHATI: Prestigious State level mathematical examination “Mathematics Olympiad” organised by Assam Academy of Mathematics (AAM) is scheduled to be held on 26th May 2019 (Sunday) in 44 centres across the State in three categories viz., Cat.-I (Class V-VI), Cat.-II (Class VII-VIII) and Cat.-III (Class IX-X-XI). The primary objective of the examination is to provide a platform to budding mathematical talents of the region so that they can get proper motivation to prepare and participate in the 3 (three) stage Mathematics Olympiad Programmes organised by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) sponsored by National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) under Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), India.

Interested students belonging to relevant categories can apply through prescribed forms which are available from AAM centre coordinators or can be downloaded from AAM website, facebook and AAM WhatsApp groups. The completely filled in form along with prescribed examination fee must be submitted to candidate’s respective centre coordinator latest by 24th May, 2019.

The list of examination centres along with names of coordinators is provided in the application form itself. Mathematics Olympiad questions are usually based on existing Government Boards’ syllabi for relevant classes though these are designed in non routine manner to test participant’s independent and logical thinking. Last year’s question papers in each category will be given in the application form in order to help students getting some kind of prior idea on the types of MO questions. Few top positions in each category to be sorted out on basis of marks obtained by the participants will be eligible for award of various sponsored prizes and AAM prizes along with certificates. Also, subject to attaining minimum marks to be fixed by talent search committee of AAM in each category, competitors will be given certificates of merit as well as appreciation.
