Mawkynrew C&RD Block achieves ODF status

Shillong, Feb 23: Meghalaya PHE Minister P Tynsong has declared Mawkynrew C&RD Block as the first Open Defecation Free (ODF) C&RD Block under East Khasi Hills District at a function held at the Office Campus of the Block Development Officer, Mawkynrew C&RD Block on Thursday.

The programme was organized by the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), East Khasi Hills District which was also attended by R. Pyngrope, local MLA, Banteidor Lyngdoh, local MDC, P.S.Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman DWSM, East Khasi Hills District, M. Allya, Chief Engineer, PHE, M. P. Gupta, Member Secretary, DWSM, Sordar, Secretary, executive members of villages under the C&RD Block, teachers, students of the areas among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Tynsong said ODF achievement of Mawkynrew C&RD  Block was truly a community led initiative under the leadership of the BDO Mawkynrew and the cooperation of all the Sordar of the villages under the Block who took the responsibility in ensuring that their village achieved  ODF status. For sustaibility, a collective effort of each and everyone is needed to create an ODF environment in the entire community, added Tynsong.

Stating that in all developmental schemes, the coordition between the departments concerned and the public is essential, Tynsong urged the Sordar and the local populace to extend their cooperation to the various government departments for all round development of the areas.

During the programme, PHE Minister felicitated the BDO of Mawkynrew C&RD Block WB Marbaniang and all the Sordar of 67 villages under the C&RD Block who achieved the ODF status under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Others who spoke on the occasion were R Pyngrope, MLA, Banteidor Lyngdoh, MDC, PS Dkhar, DC and M. Allya, Chief Engineer, PHE. The programme was presided over by M. W. Kharkongor, State Consultant, Swachh Bharat Mission and the vote of thanks was proposed by W.B. Marbaniang, BDO, Mawkynrew C&RD Block.
