SHILLONG, Sept 3: Meghalaya is rich in places that attract tourists from across the country and abroad. And one such place that attracts tourists is a small village in Lyngdoh Phanblang under Mawphlang constituency that hosts a 20-feet stone which, when observed from afar, resembles the face of a person. According to the folklore behind the image of a female face appearing on the stone tells us that the image belongs to a mother of three children Lum Symper, Lum Didum and Lum Kyrphei.
As per the folklore, an altercation broke out between Lum Symper and Lum Kyllang and as the mother is uble to stop the fight, her son Lum Didum took the hand of his mother to stop the fight and people believe that it was from this time that the face of the mother was imbedded on the stone. Because of this incident, the forefathers med the place as Mawpuri (fairy stone). It may be noted that both Lum Symper and Lum Kyllang is a popular tourist destition both for locals and those coming from outside the State. Mawpuri is only a few kilometres away from the State Capital. However, the road condition leading to the place is in a deplorable condition.
