May back out, says Sangma

SHILLONG, Jan 7: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has made it clear on Thursday that the Meghalaya will back out from holding the SAAF games scheduled next month, even as he echoed the State organizers view that the State has been discrimited.

Taking cue from the associated organizers of the intertiol games, especially when the Badminton event was shifted to Assam, Sangma said, “Our displeasure has been made to the Indian Olympic Association and if needed be we will back out as a co-host of the games.”

Meghalaya is supposed to co host eight games including the prestigious Badminton. It was allegedly shifted to Assam by Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister of State for Sports Sarbanda Sonowal.

Mukul Sangma on Thursday said, “It not politics. We will back off from the event if badminton is not restored to our State.”
