JOYSAGAR, May 1: Along with other parts of the country, International Labour Day was also observed in Sivasagar by different organizations. The ONGC Technical Employees and Contractual Workers’ Union observed May Day with a day-long programme in the office premises of the union at ONGC colony, Sivasagar. Besides, the Sivasagar district PWD workers’ union also observed Labour Day in the Sivasagar PWD head office conference hall. The Sivasagar ASTC workers and employees’ association observed the day in the Sivasagar ASTC Sadar Station.

BILASIPARA: May Day was observed in different places of Bilasipara subdivision and BTAD with great enthusiasm. May Day was observed at Khoraghat under the joint aegis of Khoraghat Forest Workers’ Union, Bilasipara Mini Truck Workers’ Union and many other trade unions. In this connection, Kismat Ali, president of Khorghat Forest Workers’ Union hoisted the red flag.  Dayal Paul, secretary of the union, offered floral tribute on the martyrs’ column. A colourful procession was taken out through the main thoroughfares of Bagribari to Barkanda. After the procession, a meeting was held at Khoragha with Khairul Islam in the chair. Dayal Paul, explained the significance of the day.

Doomdooma:  May Day was celebrated at Doomdooma under the auspices of the Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU) with active co-operation of Hindustan Lever Limited (PPF) Workers’ Union and other fraternal organizations on Tuesday at Doomdooma Town Field. The programme got underway with unfurling of the flag and paying of floral tributes to martyrs. A colourful cultural procession, where around 500 workers belonging to Hindustan Lever PPF Workers’ Union, Mid-day meal  and construction workers took part, was taken out along the main thoroughfares of the town. Later a meeting was held under the president ship of advocate Tarini Deka. The chief speaker, Maneswar Barman, former Principal of  Digboi College, exhorted the workers to remain united against anti-workers’ policies of the ruling NDA government. On the other hand, Asam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), Doomdooma Branch, with active cooperation of Baghjan-Digulturrung TE unit, centrally celebrated the day at Baghjan TE Chariali with a day-long programme.

DEMOW: Under the patronage of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), Moran Branch and in association with  labourers and employees and youths of Rajmai Tea Estate, International Labour Day was observed on Tuesday with a day- long programme in the auditorium of Rajmai Tea Estate. Paban Singh Ghatowar along with other dignitaries were present in the programme.

HOWRAGHAT: International May Day was centrally observed by All Karbi Anglong Building and Other Construction Workers’ Union (AKABOCWU) at the Joysing Doloi Auditorium, Diphu. Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang took part as chief while Harensing Bey, chairmen of KAAC, EMs and MACs of KAAC and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Karbi Anglong district, Mridul Kr. Mahanta attended the programme as guests of honour. The programme began with unfurling of the union’s flag followed by homage and mass march and rally around Diphu main market. Later, a memorandum was submitted to the KAAC CEM urging him to address the grievances faced by the workers.
