MARGHERITA, May 2: Intertiol Labour Day was observed at Ledo Tea Estate in Margherita on Friday.
The programme was organized by Assam Tea Labour Union (ATLU) Margherita Regiol committee. The smriti tarpan was done by ATLU Margherita Regiol Committee adviser and noted columnist of Margherita, Bikash Dasgupta. Assam Bihari garik Bikash Manch of Margherita president Dr OP Sahu paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for workers. Madhab Das, ATLU Margherita circle secretary said that even after 67 years of India’s independence, workers, farmers and labourers continue to be deprived by the government.
ATLU demanded Rs 330 daily wage for tea labourers of Assam.
