Mech Prince felicitated at Gossaigaon

KOKRAJHAR, May 13: A grand felicitation ceremony-cum-mass gathering was organised recently at Jiyaguri village near Saraibil of Gossaigaon subdivision, Kokrajhar district to welcome and felicitate the Bodo Prince Rajkhungur Prithviraj rayan Dev Mech.
Several cultural groups performed various colourful Bodo traditiol programs to welcome the Bodo Prince. Prithviraj rayan Dev Mech is the 19th Royal descendant of historical Sidli kingdom. Sidli kingdom was established at Chikjhar by the then Mech (Bodo) King Chikra Mech who is popularly known as Chik Jwhwlao in the Bodo society. The Hinduized society later on regarded him as Chik rayan Dev.
He said Mech was the historical me of the present Bodo community. Thousands of years before the Mahabharata, most of undivided India was ruled by the Mlechcha Kings. Mech is the corrupted version of the term ‘Mlechcha’ which had been clearly mentioned in the Linguistic Survey of India by George Grierson in the year 1903. He also said till India’s independence various territories of the North eastern India was ruled by the Mech(Bodo) Kings.
Dev Mech said several thousands people from various areas of the Kokrajhar district had actively participated in this mass gathering and the grand felicitation ceremony of Kumar Prithviraj rayan Dev Mech.
Addressing the huge mass gathering, Dev Mech said that the protection of the Tribal belts and blocks is must for the protection of the Bodo community and the existing tribal people of Assam. He also said that the spread of valuable education among the tribal society is must and mandatory for their significant development.
This program was organised by the collaboration of various Bodo organizations and social workers of that area.
