Meeting on crime against women held, Kokrajhar DC calls for awareness

KOKRAJHAR, March 31: A meeting for discussing issues related to women and children in context of the prevailing situation was held under the chairmanship of Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Niranjan Baruah hereon Friday in the conference hall of the DC’s office. The meeting stressed the importance of generating awareness among the public as to how the rise in crimes against children, girls and women could be stopped in the society. In his speech, Deputy Commissioner Niranjan  Baruah expressed his concern over the growing  incidents of crimes like molestation, rape and kidpping against women across the State.  In this connection, the DC assured of holding awareness meetings at village level involving gaon buras, NGOs, members of different social organizations and government departments concerned.
Attending the meeting, Kokrajhar  Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh informed about the Assam Government’s decision to set up special  women cell in every police station and fast-track courts to ensure speedy trial of the cases relating to crimes against women in every district headquarter of the State. He informed about the order issued to the OCs of all the police stations of district to take strict action in all cases of crimes against women and to initiate speedy investigation.
