From a Reporter
SHILLONG, May 19: State BJP members and supporters today celebrated the victory of the party at the Assam Assembly elections 2016 at Bivar Road, Shillong.
Speaking to reporters Banshai Khongwir, vice president of the state BJP congratulated party’s Assam president Sarbanda Sonowal and PM rendra Modi and Amit Shah for the party’s big victory in Assam. “With this victory we will be able to stand a very strong hold in the Northeast which will also give necessary boost to the party here in the state of Meghalaya,” he said.
He also congratulated Conrad K Sangma of tiolist Peoples Party (NPP) who won the 2-Tura by-poll defeating the INC candidate Dikkanchi D Shira.
When asked what would be the immediate effect of the BJP’s win in the neighboring state here in Meghlaya, he said that since the BJP does not have any party representative in the legislative assembly this victory will give the much needed boost for the party in the state in future.
Meanwhile, David Kharsati, general secretary of state BJP said that the victory of Conrad is a clear indication of the anti-incumbency of Congress rule in the state led by Mukul Sangma.
“The people of Garo Hills are giving out a clear answer that they want change. The victory is also a tribute to late Purno A Sangma,” he said.
