Meghalaya BJP slams State government over force deployment

A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Feb 9: The state BJP has alleged that despite seeking additiol Para military forces to deploy in Garo Hills, the Meghalaya government is however hesitant to pay the 10 percent expenditure cost and this has resulted in the non-deployment of forces by the Central government.

The state BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said that in a meeting with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on the law and order situation in Garo Hills they had learned that the state government had asked for more para military forces to be deployed in Garo Hills. He said the central government had agreed to bare 90 percent of the expenses and the state government only 10 percent, but so far the Meghalaya government has failed to fulfill the required 10 percent set by the central government.  “This is the reason why the central government cannot deploy the additiol Para military forces as demanded by the state government,” he said. He added, “From our side we have requested the Central government to remove even the 10 per cent so that Para military forces can be sent to Garo hills.” Meanwhile, Edmund Sangma tiol Council member in-charge BJP Mahila Morcha, said, “The state government has not been able to pay a single penny for the additiol Para military forces they had asked for and until and unless the state government clear their fincial responsibility, the central government as per the fincial procedure will not be able to send more additiol forces to Meghalaya.”
