Shillong, May 9: Grace, glitz and glamour- all the elements fell into their perfect place last evening at Terra Mayaa here as Affluent Ray of Light (ARL) opened their journey into the 2nd edition of the North East India Fashion Week with its first promo fashion show in the region. Organized by Affluent Ray of Light, a non-profit organization dedicated to globalize the social and cultural aspects of the different tribes of North east India, the fashion event saw the presence of the crème de la crème of the region’s fashion fraternity.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Operating Officer and founder of Affluent Ray of Light, fashion designer Ya Ngoba said, “Northeast has an immense artistic potential. It is sad to see that weavers today are giving up their age old tradition in search of jobs which pays them better. With this event we want to promote the weavers of the region who lives in disguise but are so important for the designers across the world.”

The 2nd edition of North East India Fashion Week, a three-day fashion extravaganza, has been conceptualized to inspire and encourage the upcoming handicraft artisans and designers of the region, who are working exclusively towards the promotion of northeastern fabrics and culture. The event will be held in Itagar from June 3 to 5 next.

Rupert W. Lynrah from Meghalaya is a Fashion Designing graduate from Pearl Academy of Fashion and has been in the designing industry for the past 12 years. Prior to launching his own fashion label RWL Designs in Shillong, Rupert worked with Splash Fashions in Dubai for seven years.

His collections at NEIFW represent his ethnicity and ethnic identity, a feature that is predomint in all of his designs. “It is a collection where east meets west. I have tried to bridge the gap the traditiol and the modern, thus creating a hybrid that fits for all in unison”, he said

About his participation in North East India Fashion Week, Rupert says, “NEIFW gives us designers a platform to foray into the competitive field of fashion design by showcasing our creativity and talent. Having said that, it is not just the designers, but also the weavers, artisans, entrepreneurs and buyers a chance to gather under one roof and find potential buyers and business opportunities.

North East India Fashion Week is a concept created and implemented by Affluent Ray of Light (ARL) to promote weavers, designers and craftsmen of the region in the tiol as well as intertiol market and to empower talent of northeast by providing them a networking opportunity and by facilitating buyers for their products. This event is a platform provided to all accomplices within northeast Indian industry, with a special focus on weavers and handicrafts, with a motive to build network and alliance with partners & markets across the globe.

The fashion show witnessed the participation of 13 young designers who believe in showcasing their traditiol fabric and patterns and have successfully carved a niche for themselves in the fashion industry.
