GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), August 30: The workers of NREGA (tiol Rural Employment Guarantee Act) under Golaghat district have alleged not being provided unemployment allowance by Panchayat and Rural Development Department after rigorous judgment by the Golaghat court.

On Tuesday, Golaghat district committee of Assam State NREGA workers’ union submitted a memorandum demanding immediate release of unemployment allowance to the workers which is pending from year 2014-15.

In this regard the secretary of the organization, Durlav Bharali said that many panchayats under Golaghat district failed to provide employment and to pay unemployment allowances to labourers under provision of NREGA Act, 2005. On October 10 of 2015, 824 NREGA workers went to the Golaghat Court and lodged a Pre-litigation Case No. 01 of 68. On December 12, 2015, the court gave judgment in favour of workers and directed the department concerned to provide unemployment allowances. Later the Project Director, DRDA Golaghat, informed the matter by letter No. G/DRDA/MG NREGA-4/Pt-II/2014 to the Commissioner of Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Assam. But no initiative was taken by the department and NREGA workers were living a miserable and poor life. He demanded that unemployment allowances should be provided immediately otherwise they would launched mass agitation in coming days.
