MIFY unhappy over delay in Governor's assent to VAB

A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Dec 29: The Meghalaya Indigenous Youth Federation (MIFY), Federal Body, today expressed delight over the assent of the Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmugathan on the Village Administration Bill (VAB) of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC). However the MIYF are disappointed that the VAB of the KHADC is still pending to get the assent for the Meghalaya Governor.

“It is a defeat to the people of ka Bri U Hynniewtrep and a cheerful moment to the enemies of our Hynniewtrep land as their plan to divide us is becoming successful and now it will become even more easier for non-tribal’s to capture the heart of our motherland that is Shillong if the KHAD (VAB) is not given the assent soon,” Kitboklang Kharlyngdoh, publicity secretary of  MIYF said in a statement here on Tuesday.

Stating that non-tribals are aware that most of the ordiry inhabitants of Jaintia Region are happy over the assent of the JHADC (VAB) to empower their village Dorbars, he said, “We as indigenous organisation of the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo people who stand to protect, safeguard our people and their identity, interest, culture and even business interest we feel there is a conspiracies to weaken the fight to pass the VAB of KHADC because the Capital of Hynñiewtrep land Shillong falls within its territory.”

The Federation has also demanded from both the State and Central authorities to clarify the paragraphs, articles, clauses of the KHADC (VAB) that confronts the Indian constitution.

Kharlyngdoh said that if the authorities do not clarify then it will clearly show that there is a conspiracy to reduce the indigenous population in Shillong city and its surrounding and wipe out the origil race in the near future.

“We are confident that the KHADC (VAB) Bill is the best bill to empower the traditiol institutions, especially the traditiol heads in Shillong in order to prevent the domince of the non-tribals in various localities of the city,” he said.

He said that the Federation does not accept the claims made by the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri u Hynniewtrep (SKNSKBUH) that the JHADC (VAB) Bill was given the assent due to their campaign.

According to him, in a democratic country like India, the general public have a constitutiol, moral and tural right to know why the KHADC (VAB) Bill has till date not been given the assent.

He informed that the Federation will soon send a petition to the Meghalaya Governor to seek clarification on the points, paragraphs, articles or clauses of the KHADC (VAB) Bill which confronts with the constitution of India.

“We will also send a petition to the President of the India seeking his intervention to know what is compelling the Governor and other authorities for delaying in passing the KHADC (VAB) while giving the assent on the JHADC (VAB),” he said.
