Minister and MLA involved in supari syndicate, alleges KMSS

Golaghat (Dhekial), Feb 11: Under the patroge of a powerful minister and an MLA of the Sarbanda Sonowal-led State Government, the supari syndicate is going on in Assam. This was alleged by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief adviser Akhil Gogoi at a press meet at his residence in Golaghat on Sunday.

He clearly alleged that a large-scale illegal supari syndicate was going on under the patroge of the minister and MLA. He further said that overall development of the State had stopped due to shortage of fund. On the other hand, mafia were running coal, stone and supari syndicate without paying taxes to the government. As a result, the government had lost crores of rupees of taxes due to alleged syndicate raj.

The illegally trade of supari from Myanmar and Indonesia to Assam was being controlled and run from Golaghat and Barak Valley, he alleged. Abdul Mann of Golaghat, Dipankar Dev and Anjan Paul were the key players of the supari syndicate, he alleged.

Akhil Gogoi said that there were treaties between Myanmar and India for transport and import of only 62 items and supari was not among the 62 items. By violating various laws, including the treaties between India and Myanmar (Burma), the mafia were running the illegal supari syndicate due to which the government was losing out on revenue.

He also alleged that in the illegal syndicate, a section of superior officers of the Agriculture Marketing Board were involved and the supari syndicate was controlled from Golaghat district under  the supervision of the Superintendent of Police of Golaghat, Mabendra Dev Ray.

He appealed to the Sarbanda Sonowal government to take immediate action to stop the syndicate within the month otherwise the KMSS, with help of people, would come out against the supari syndicate.
