ITANAGAR: Minister for AH & VHF and Sports & Youth Affairs Dr. Mohesh Chai on August 17 visited the Ballaliang Firing Range of Indian Army situated near Lohitpur where on August 9, a local died due to a shell blast.

The Minister was accompanied by DC and SP of Lohit district, Army authority, GBs and the villagers on August 17. Dr. Chai after taking a stock of the site requested the district administration to issue an order to the Army authority to immediately sanitise the area so as to avoid any further incident.

He also requested the Army authority to inform the district administration as well as the villagers nearby about the firing practice prior to its execution. "It was unfortunate to see that a sizeable numbers of mortal shells were scattered all over the firing range, which clearly indicates the area was not sanitised properly after the drill, Chai said." Earlier on August 10. Dr. Chai had assured to provide ex-gratia for the victimised family after the completion of required official formalities. He had also informed the Chief Minister about the incident.
