Minor gang-raped in Kokrajhar, accused held

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 7: A 14-year old minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by two persons on Monday evening in Kokrajhar. One of the accused persons was arrested by the police and interrogation is going on.

Sources said the minor girl who hailed from Saralpara area along the Indo-Bhutan border, was on the way to the local market at around 4.30 pm on Monday when two persons, mely Rupak Ray of Choraikhola and Sanjay Basumatary alias Lengra, driver of a Winger from Diajiri under Kokrajhar police station, allegedly forced the girl to board the vehicle and moved towards Ultapani forest and raped her. She was then brought to the house of Rupak Ray at Choraikhola, about 7 km from Kokrajhar town and repeatedly raped the whole night.

On Tuesday morning, Rupak Ray brought the girl to the railway station and was forcing her to board the train when some conscious people got suspicious and came to rescue the girl. The people could catch one of the accused persons and handed him over to the police while another accused Sanjay Basumatary is absconding. The accused Ray confessed committing the crime. Meanwhile, the minor girl was admitted at RN Brahma Civil hospital for treatment.
