Minor girl molested, video goes viral

Shillong, April 8: A video of a group of men molesting a girl in North Garo Hills district has gone viral on WhatsApp. The girl who appears to be drunk in the video is a minor. The identity of the victim is still not known.

The incident, which seems to have happened a few days back, shows the girl inside a vehicle with the molesters. The registration number of a scooty used by the perpetrators is also clearly seen in the video. Soon after the police got the information that such a video has gone viral, they swung into action rounded up the perpetrators in the wee hours of Sunday morning as informed by the police.

The five persons who have been taken into custody have been identified as forest guard Kaltu K Sangma, Zingachio Ch Momin, ex jail warden Bansilal D Shira, surrendered GNLA cadre Teng and ANVC surrenderee Beking Sangma.

The group, is being questioned by North Garo Hills police at Mendipathar police station. It may be mentioned that as per data available with the Meghalaya Police, 360 cases of crimes against children were reported in Meghalaya in 2017. Out of these, 298 incidents alone were registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
