Minor girl sexually assaulted; 2 held

TANGLA, Feb 24: At a time when slogans of women and girl child rights and women empowerment are being discussed, crime and violence on women and minor are being resurfaced from various parts of the State. The police on Friday arrested two persons for allegedly sexually harassing a five-year-girl old child at Borengajuli TE under Dimakuchi police station in Udalguri district. The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday night last. Based on the complaint of the victim’s mother, police have arrested the two accused identified as Shibu Gowala (50) and Om Kumar Gowala (20). The accused, after being produced before a local court, have been sent to 14-day judicial custody. A case under relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered at the Dimakuchi PS and the investigation into the incident was underway. The heinous crime has evoked strong protest.
