Ri-Bhoi (Meghalaya), Feb 16: Very often issues relating to embezzlement of fund of various government schemes have been found to make the headlines in the TV news or newspaper. In yet another alleged case of misuse of fund meant for Total Sanitation Campaign, RTI findings have revealed that village heads of Mihmyntdu in West Jaintia Hills have allegedly embezzled the money meant for the toilet scheme. This has been alleged by the Meghalaya People United Front (MPUF) and Khasi Jaintia tiol Union (KJNU). The RTI reply revealed that genuine beneficiaries were deprived of their dues. They were to get the funds from the PHE but none have received them till date. The MPUF and the KJNU will hold a public meeting in this regard and have demanded the village heads to repay the money to the locals. Meanwhile, the Sordar of Raid Kyrdem, who has also been accused of misappropriating fund meant for construction of toilets, along with 12 headmen from the area has filed a counter FIR against one Helin Lawai alleging him of misusing his powers and misguiding the residents of Klew village in Ri-Bhoi.  In majority of the cases the village headmen are mainly found to be involved in the fund misappropriation games. Taking the advantage of the illiterate villagers and their poor economic condition the headmen most of the time gallops the fund of poor beneficiaries.
