Miscreants burn down bamboo bridge near Kokrajhar town

KOKRAJHAR, April 28: Unidentified miscreants on Wednesday night burnt down the bamboo bridge over the River Gaurang near Kokrajhar town which has disrupted the communication of at least six villages. The villagers expressed their angry over the burning of bridge and demanded inquiry into it.
The vice-president of the Kokrajhar district committee of All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) zrul Islam said there had been a public ritual in their village in the evening and at the same time a cremation was taking place near the River Gaurang. He said some unidentified miscreants with ulterior motives burnt down the bamboo bridge over the river at night at around 11 pm. He said some persons who were present in the cremation could have burnt the bridge.
Islam said the bridge was the only means of communication for at least six villages. He said there was a public crematorium for Hindus near the river but they would cremate the bodies along the river during the winter season. He also said the union had approached the president of the crematorium committee urging him to restrict the cremation along the river but nothing had been done. He demanded inquiry into the incident.
The OC of Kokrajhar Police Station, Rabin Choudhury said a complaint had been lodged at the police station over the burning down of the bamboo bridge. He said some unidentified miscreants burnt down the bridge. He also said that the culprits would be bbed.
